Rain Season in Africa
I've worked out that it will be rain season in Africa in November and December, hence possibly a "not so good" chance at any decent sight seeing during safaris.
Which means Africa may now not be a good idea, not until next August/September.
Why didnt I think of that?
Nevermind. I have a few more ideas brewing....

Dry season starts May. Go in May.
It doesn't rain that much. Not in the countries you are planning to go to. I'd still do it, Kate. Do it! Do it! Do it! And even if it does rain a little bit, the rains will make everything look even lusher, and the animals will be out and about at the waterholes, smiling and jumping around and skipping and singing in the rain. Do it! Do it! Do it!
You'll get better shots in the dry, when the animals have to come to the watering holes ... You'll see more.
It's a personal preference choice, of course. But I think there's probably magic in any season in Africa! I like the mind-visual Bead's description evokes!
You get soggy shoes, socks and undies when it rains, anywhere in the world. But it's worse when you travel, I think... I'd go anytime. But bring a poncho and a waterproof cover for your camera hehe then you can take it under water mwehehe
