Robbery in central Stockholm
Published: 25th April 2006 19:32 CET

A masked man armed with a pistol held up a jewelry store on Stockholm's Kungsgatan at five thirty on Tuesday evening.

Police sealed off part of the road, one of the busiest shopping street's in the capital, fearing that the man could still be inside.

People coming out of restaurants and shops in the sealed-off part of the street were told by police to go back inside.

Around 25 police cars were ordered to the scene. Staff in the affected store were said to be shocked and an ambulance was ordered to the scene to help them.

The robber was said by police to be around 25, 180 cm (5 feet, 9 inches) and thin in his build. Witnesses said he was wearing black jeans, a black waist-length jacket, dark gym shoes and a balaclava.
