Test Cricket - Australia vs South Africa - SCG - 2 Jan 2006

On 2 January 2006, I attended the Test match held at the Sydney Cricket Ground between Australia and South Africa. Although the day started off raining, it settled after a few hours and play begun. While it wasnt to be the most exciting day of cricket (with the SA batsmen blocking the ball, rather than hitting it) but it made for great photography and lots of laughs!

A Day At the Cricket - the only time when
dressing like your mates is acceptable!

We spent the first three hours watching the covers get put on, and off,
and back on, and back off...

It was ironic that the day before, Sydney had experienced
its hottest day in 62 years - a "cool" 45 degrees celcius

Finally, the Australian and South African teams came out for the National Anthems - and our singer forgot the words to our own. How embarrassing.

Every Australian must own an inflatable Kangaroo. Its mandatory.

"The Boys" - (L to R) Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting (C), Adam Gilchrist and Justin Langer

"Gilly and Binga" - Adam Gilchrist and Brett Lee

"Duck, Duck, Duck.... Goose!" (R to L) Gilchrist, Langer, Ponting, and the Goose - Shane Warne

I've never quite gotten into cricket, I've always thought of it as being too 'English'...although rugby's just as English so that shows how fickle I am :)

Actually maybe it's because I consider it an old man's sport...

BUT, as much as I HATED hearing England go on and on about how they won the ashes (I dont know what it is, I just know they won!) I was able to take something good from the situation--like seeing Andrew Flintoff on all the sports coverage!

Kate,

'We spent the first three hours watching the covers get put on, and off, and back on, and back off...'

An inflatable Kangaroo and forgotten words to the national anthem. Well it sounds like you had loads of fun. Marvellous, just marvellous.

A truly ‘unforgettable’ day here at the Sydney cricket grounds.
